We are Ferrania Film APS , a non-profit organization founded to develop and promote history, heritage and culture linked to film in photography and cinema, tightly rooted in the areas of Ferrania and Val Bormida. We are a gathering of photographers, researchers, archivists, enthusiasts of cinema and analog culture, former Ferrania workers and people sharing one goal, that to keep alive one of the most prominent examples of Italian industrial heritage linked to image.
Our project is being developed as the evolution of a decades-long cultural experience through research, exhibitions, events, festivals, archives and other activities linked to analog photography and cinema. Ferrania, and the whole of Val Bormida, is a symbolic place in the history of the Italian photographic and film industry: for over a century, this was the area of production of films, photosensitive materials and equipment that have marked cinema, photography, and the visual imagination of entire generations.
Our activities
We promote the Ferrania Film Festival as a space to build a community, to experiment and discuss industrial heritage, contemporary practices and territories. Through screenings, exhibitions, talks and other activities, the festival aims to build a cultural network where artists, professionals, enthusiasts and the local communities can all participate.
Analog photography and cinema, and the 8mm and 16mm formats have a particular importance in the scope of the festival. As a non-profit organization, we work to sustain research, archives, promotion and development of the cultural and industrial heritage linked to Ferrania, with a constant look towards the future, keeping the link to the history of Val Bormida alive.
Ferrania Film APS is a space for active participation and sharing, where analog culture is not just a distant memory but a living, present-day experience, able to generate new relations, creativity and awareness.
